Chances are if you're reading this, you need spikes. Also, chances are that you might need some new spikes. Here are some of the ones that people on the team have (to the best of my knowledge) to get you started:
Nike Zoom Victory:
The ideal mid-distance (specifically 800 to 1600) spike. It features a spike plate along with sharkskin for $110; owned by Teddy, Tom Claiborne, and BC
Weight: Freakin' light
Nike Zoom Forever:
A lightweight cross country spike, it doesn't really feature anything special but is overall good; owned by Tom Claiborne, BC, and Scott
Weight: Lighter than you're used to
Asics Gel Dirt Dog (1 & 2):
Overall "meh" spike, although the golden color of the Dirt Dog 2 is a definite plus. Unfortunately, my (BC's) pair seems to be a little cursed; owned by Cronin, George, and BC
Weight: Lighter than you would expect
Nike Zoom Matumbo:
A lightweight long-distance track spike, starting from about the 3200. Depending on what event you want to do and whether you're willing to spend $110, it's between the Victories and Matumbos for distance track events...; owned by Coyle
Weight: Freakin' light
Puma Harambees:
I don't even know where to find these, and all I know is that they have the reputation of being the best damn miler shoe out there; ask BC
Weight: ??
Nike Mayfly:
Probably the weirdest shoe ever, it's a light flat basically designed for road races. The upper is quite literally paper. And the best part? It falls apart after about 62 miles; owned by BC
Weight: Pretty Light
Asics Turbo Phantoms:
The ultimate in hurdle spikes thus far, ideal for distances up about the 800, although that might be pushing it. Con: spike plate so you can't use it indoors unless you can get to states; owned by Rob Thottam
Weight: No problem
Nike Celar 3's:
I really have no idea about these spikes yet, all I know is that they look awesome, have a huge spike plate and have a bit of a high arch problem; owned by George.
Weight: Lighter than you would expect
Mizuno Chrono Dash TT's:
The best sprint spike ever. Period. Owned by: nobody unless you're size 13 and willing to pay $170
Weight: ??
Turbo-charged, super-duper, amazing, TT, Phantom Blazer Killer Spikes:
THE SPIKE GOD WOULD WEAR IF HE RAN TRACK. Owned by: Jesus Christ, if we're lucky. If we're not, Godzilla
Weight: -8.2 oz
Peterson no own no Dirt Dog Spike. Or so he be thinkin'. Also, addition to the spikes list:
ReplyDeleteTurbo-charged, super-duper, amazing, TT, Phantom Blazer Killer Spike Thingies, or whatever they're called.
